Engaging Fishermans Bend residents and nurturing creative connections and collaborations

In partnership with Greystar, FB IDEAs has converted a vacant retail space on the ground floor of Greystar’s Build-To-Rent project The Gladstone into a dynamic cultural and community space through a short term Artist in Residence program.

From April 2025 to June 2026, the program supported Angelina Mirabito and Romulus Folio Gallery to create a vibrant space that fostered collaboration in Fisherman’s Bend through exhibitions, an open studio, workshops, talks, and an art-to-rent initiative to promote community engagement and accessibility and support creative industries.

From July 2026, ArtUp will move is as the second Gladstone Creative in Residence. Founded by artists Jade Armstrong and Kerrin Samuel, ArtUp is an emerging art ecosystem that connects emerging artists with collectors, buyers, businesses and audiences. During their residency, “Bloom” will transform the space into a flora-themed exhibition, pop-up retail and programs space exploring plants, roots, growth, ageing and blooming across contemporary art and design.

Affordable creative space in Fishermans Bend, and surrounding areas of inner Melbourne, is in short supply and high demand. By unlocking and facilitating short term access to spaces like The Gladstone, we aim to remove barriers for a diversity of creatives and innovators to experiment and build their practise in Fishermans Bend. We want to show the future vision for Fishermans Bend in action - a thriving place and collaborative community that showcases environmental sustainability, liveability, connectivity, diversity and innovation.

Location

  • You’ll find the Gladstone Creative in Residence space on the ground floor, next to Lobby B at The Gladstone, located at 15-85 Gladstone Street, South Melbourne, 3205.

We’re deeply invested in creating a vibrant community here at The Gladstone in South Melbourne, which is why we jumped at the opportunity to partner with FB IDEAs to bring our ground floor retail space to life ahead of a cafe moving in. As well as supporting local artists, it’s a great way for our resident community to get involved.
