ArtUp selected as next Gladstone Creative in Residence

In partnership with Greystar, we are thrilled to announce ArtUp as the next Creative in Residence at The Gladstone.

Founded by artists Jade Armstrong and Kerrin Samuel, ArtUp is an emerging art ecosystem that connects emerging artists with collectors, buyers, businesses and audiences through visual interaction, publishing, exhibitions, artist talks, art demos, workshops, digital engagement and advisory-style services.

Following a public EoI process, ArtUp were selected to activate the space with “Bloom” - a flora-themed exhibition and pop-up retail space.  The exhibition will be supported by a public program of workshops, artist talks, community events and participatory activities exploring plants, roots, growth, ageing and blooming across contemporary art and design.

From July to September, this residency at The Gladstone will enable the team to launch and test the ArtUp concept and connect with audiences.  The exhibition will facilitate an established and well-known local artist to work alongside emerging artists, creating a bridge between established practice and new creative voices.

ArtUp was created in response to two key gaps that Jade Armstrong and Kerrin Samuel have experienced in their own practise within the visual arts sector: limited visibility and sustainable career pathways for emerging artists, and a lack of clear, trusted guidance for people interested in buying emerging art. In particular, they are focused on supporting emerging artists pushing creative boundaries and innovating in their field, through incorporating technology, material experimentation and novel design ideas.

The Gladstone Creative in Residence program offers a rare opportunity for ArtUp to test and share their vision in a real public setting, whilst highlighting the intersection of art and innovation within Fishermans Bend.  Kate Spencer, General Manager of FB IDEAs said:

“We are excited to welcome ArtUp to Fishermans Bend and look forward to supporting them to showcase diverse creative talent, experiment, and connect with the local community.  We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Greystar, which has enabled us to extend this rare opportunity to other creatives in the community.

As we welcome a new creative in, we also want to acknowledge and celebrate the amazing contribution that Romulus Folio Gallery have made to The Gladstone community, and Fishermans Bend, over the last 14 months.  Through an extensive program of exhibitions, workshops and events they have connected deeply with the community and made the most of this short term opportunity to access rent-free creative space in the heart of Fishermans Bend.”

We encourage everyone to follow Romulus’s journey and get updates about the next chapter via their website - https://www.romulusfolio.com.au/

ArtUp will commence their residency from July so stay tuned for more updates about when the space will re-open to the public.
