Exhibition opening at Romulus Folio Gallery draws local support

Last Friday, September 12, Romulus Folio Gallery celebrated the opening of the latest exhibition ‘Whispers from the Grove’. Combined with The Gladstone’s social night for residents, it was a buzzing atmosphere, with family, community and creative connections growing.

The exhibition features heavily textured and expressive palette knife paintings by artist in residence Angelina Mirabito, where light and shadow move across thick, sculptural surfaces, evoking the subtle rhythms of nature and the emotional landscapes of human experience. Alongside them, Maria Simonelli’s organic sculptures emerge as tactile echoes of the natural world, drawing attention to the intricate patterns and energies that shape life itself. Complementing both, Scott Ross’s meditative video installations weave light, time, and shadow into a reflective space where presence and perception become intertwined. The gallery have been transformed into a grove itself, a living, breathing environment that encourages stillness and introspection.

Opening night was a celebration not only of the artists’ achievements but also of the communities they engage with and inspire. It was great to see Nina Taylor MP for Albert Park and Alex Makin, the City of Port Philip Councillor for the Montague ward showing their support for the arts and creative industries in Fishermans Bend.

And also a lovely suprise to discover the new pop up parklet and library out the front on Gladstone Street.

Whispers from the Grove is open until the 28th September.
