Partner with Port Melbourne Secondary College to Inspire the Next Generation of Leaders
Port Melbourne Secondary College are once again looking for local businesses and professionals to be mentors in their upcoming student innovation program.
Designed to foster entrepreneurial thinking, creativity and community connection, each year students in Years 7 and 8 participate in a week-long program that connect them with industry mentors and guide them through the design thinking process as they explore local challenges.
Mentors play a vital role in the programs, providing guidance, feedback and industry insights. And as a mentor, it gives you a unique opportunity to connect with young people, share knowledge, and contribute to building a stronger, more connected community.
Your involvement (how long, when etc) can be tailored to suit your availability, and mentors are fully supported by teaching staff throughout the week.
Ignite (2–6 September) invites Year 7 students to work in teams on a design sprint framed by a mentor-led challenge. These challenges are grounded in the mentor's area of expertise and designed to help students engage with real-world problems, collaborate on solutions, and pitch their ideas at the end of the week.
Evolve (18–25 October) asks Year 8 students to explore issues that affect people living and working in the local area, from infrastructure and transport to health, the environment or small business needs. Students work in groups with mentors who support them in identifying a specific problem and guiding them through possible solutions.
If you, or your organisation, are interested in getting involved, Port Melbourne Secondary College would love to hear from you. Please contact Leading Teacher Community Engagement and Partnerships, Shelly Casey, via email shelly.casey@education.vic.gov.au or by phone on 9113 3500 and she will be happy to assist further.
