‘Interim Activation on Government Land: A Catalyst for Accelerated Urban Renewal’ report launched

'“Unlocking interim activation re-frames the challenge of vacancy. It allows government to extract value from assets throughout the transition period – turning underutilised land from a holding liability into a strategic tool for delivering earlier, stronger and more resilient urban renewal outcomes.”

We are pleased to announce the publication of the report ‘Interim Activation on Government Land: A Catalyst for Accelerated Urban Renewal’, which was officially launched to Government stakeholders at an event last week.

Drawing on insights from the pilot program in Fishermans Bend, the report was commissioned by FB IDEAs as a way to advance thought leadership around interim use - aligning with our goal to bring together the tools, skills and partnerships to utilise existing buildings and sites while the precinct is in transition.

Prepared by experienced placemaker and interim use specialist Bec McHenry, from To Good Use, the report builds a compelling case for a whole-of-government approach to interim use and activation to unlock accelerated urban renewal and economic development outcomes.

Importantly, it re-frames interim use and activation of government assets as a critical phase of transformation which government can leverage to unlock strategic opportunities and deliver public benefit in alignment with key economic, social, environment intergenerational and government drivers – both now and into the future.
