Worms at Work: Pilot Launch

It’s exciting to see the winning idea of the 2024 Fishermans Bend Digital Innovation Challenge coming to life in Fishermans Bend!

In partnership with the City of Melbourne, the team behind Worms at Work project have been busy. With support from a range of local partners - St Ali Roasters, Susuro Urban Winery, Polynova and Mr Fox in a Box - there are already hundreds of worms already at work across three benches in Fishermans Bend and Yarra’s Edge, showing how small, local actions can help build a more sustainable city.

The City of Melbourne are officially launching the pilot to show how this innovative project is transforming food scraps into nutrient-rich compost through specially designed community benches. You're invited to join us and be part of bringing this project to life:

Where: Susuro Urban Winery – 134/15 Hall St, Port Melbourne

When: 5pm to 7pm on Thursday 16 October

What to expect:

  • Hear from City of Melbourne Councillor Andrew Rowse on how this pilot supports Melbourne’s innovation and sustainability goals.

  • See the benches in action and check out the live dashboard powered by sensors

  • Meet the innovators behind the idea, Zoe Wang (Upsoil Collective) and Michael Mobbs (The Off Grid Guy).

  • Celebrate with our pilot supporters St Ali Roasters, Susuro Urban Winery, Polynova and Mr Fox in a Box – plus our community champions who made it happen.

  • Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival and light refreshments.

Join us to connect, be inspired, and discover how worms are helping Melbourne reimagine food waste – one bench at a time.
