Revisioning Social Procurement – Why profit matters?

  • FB IDEAs Incubator and Innovation Hub Level 1, 650 Lorimer Street Port Melbourne, VIC, 3207 Australia (map)

Delivering success across the triple bottom line, in profit, people and planet remains elusive for many businesses. Uncertainty drives organisations to retreat to familiar playing fields, but at the intersection between financial outcomes and social & environmental impacts, lays untapped value.

Social Enterprises need to evolve to effectively compete in their sectors, make robust economic decisions and provide exceptional value to customers, abandoning the model of “being a useful means to boost corporate social responsibility”.

Successful social procurement should be measured firstly by the generated economic value, the reduction and diversification of supplier risk and the ease of doing business with.

Achieving the triple bottom line for ‘People and Planet’ should just be the by-product of a good business decision.

Victor Nguyen is the Founder of Upsol, a social enterprise providing rapidly deployable solar and battery energy solutions, with a focus on decarbonising energy needs in remote communities and off-grid applications.  Victor has been on both sides of the equation and demonstrates how profit and impact are not mutually exclusive.
