Historic Holdens return to their origins
A group of original Holden vehicles from South Australia assembled outside the original GMH Administration area in Salmon street.
The Holden community continue to maintain a strong connection to Fishermans Bend.
Recently, a group of historic early Holden models from the South Australian FX/FJ Holden Club made the long sojourn to view the significant historical sites it contains for followers of Holden, and Australia’s early manufacturing history.
Salmon Street is still home to magnificent art deco buildings that GMH (General Motors Holden) erected in the 1930’s, as well as the lesser known but incredibly significant site where the first all Australian car was launched by the then Prime Minister Ben Chifley in 1948. Viewable from the rooftop carpark of 191 Salmon street.
As we look to the future - we are reminded that it is a continuation of a proud and rich history of design, engineering and manufacturing innovation here in Melbourne.
