Meet Artists for Kids’ Culture - the newest Innovator at the Circular Design Collective
We’re thrilled to welcome Artists for Kids’ Culture (AKC) as our newest Innovator in Residence at the Fishermans Bend Circular Design Collective.
AKC is a much-loved not-for-profit that delivers inclusive, imaginative arts programs for children who might otherwise miss out. From painting to printmaking, their work celebrates creative access, often via their mobile artsbusArts Bus, which brings joy, colour and connection to communities across Victoria on the lands of the Kulin Nations.the city.
AKC’s commitment to creative reuse, inclusion and community impact aligns beautifully with the spirit of the CDC. We’re delighted to have them in the fold. At a time of transition for the organisation, we’re proud to offer space and solidarity and look forward to collaborating with them during their time with us.

This spring, the AKC ArtsBus rolls in for a hands-on school holiday workshops to turn the Fishermans Bend Circular Design Collective into a pop-up weaving studio,
Participants will build their own looms from discarded picture frames, then learn to weave using spaghetti yarn—a textile made from upcycled t-shirts. It’s crafting with a conscience: a tactile, joyful way to explore reuse and sustainability, one loop at a time.
The concept is deceptively simple: make something, waste nothing, and share ideas in the process.
“We’re creating a space where kids can experience the power of turning everyday waste into something new,” says the team behind ArtsBus. “It’s not about perfect outcomes—it’s about process, imagination, and making with what you’ve got.”
ArtsBus is a beloved creative education initiative that brings portable, inclusive workshops into schools, community centres, and public spaces across Victoria. These sessions in partnership with FB IDEAs offer families a unique chance to explore sustainability through making while having a laugh and getting a little bit gluey in the process.
