Co-designing community resilience in Montague
Last week, members of the FB IDEAs team, and some of the Innovators in Residence at the Circular Design Collective and FB IDEAs Hub joined Gamuda Australia to take part in a community resilience workshop.
Led by David Mahony from HIP V. HYPE – a leading sustainability consultant – this interactive session focused on ways to strengthen the short- and long-term resilience of future community at The Canopy, and Fishermans Bend more broadly. We talked about the types of potential shocks and stresses that could impact the precinct – from climate risks to infrastructure challenges.
Then as a group we identified opportunities to improve resilience at both building and community levels, and came up with a range of ideas and practical responses to support wellbeing and social connection. From emergency food parcels to facilitating spaces for kids (both residents and local community) to play onsite and expanding the “shared library” already planned for Canopy Residents (ie. a fleet of e-bikes residents can use!) this discussion highlighted that small initiatives have huge potential to reshape how we interact with our neighbours, and how as a collective we can prepare for the future.
Thanks to the team at Gamuda for hosting the session, and to our partners - After, Heliotope, Precious Plastic Melbourne and Studio MK for being part of such an uplifting discussion!
