Cleantech Showcase brings 200+ cleantech innovators to Fishermans Bend
We were proud to be part of the Australian Cleantech Showcase event last Wednesday 30 April, held by Victorian Cleantech Cluster at The TimberYard in Fishermans Bend.
The event saw 200+ passionate attendees - cleantech businesses, innovators, investors, policymakers, and visionaries - come together to connect and explore how to position Victoria and Australia as a global cleantech powerhouse.
The day started with a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country by Stephen Thorpe from Sustainative. Meredith Sussex AM, Chair of the FB IDEAs Board, provided opening remarks along with Nigel Murphy from the Victorian Cleantech Cluster and City of Melbourne Councillor Andrew Rowse.
As Meredith Sussex AM reflected in her opening speech, cleantech is key to achieving the vision for Fishermans Bend be “a thriving place that is a leading example for environmental sustainability, liveability, connectivity, diversity and innovation.”
Kate Spencer, FB IDEAs Head of Projects, Partnership and Industry Engagement, also hosted a panel discussion exploring the opportunities and challenges for Cleantech in Fishermans Bend. It was great to be joined by two great Fishermans Bend innovators - Clinton Rodda from JET Charge and Rodney Thomson from Advanced Composite Structures Australia (ACS-A) to explore the opportunities to connect to customers, partners, collaborators, specialist expertise and talent from the diverse industries present and emerging in the Fishermans Bend innovation ecosystem.
Clinton Rodda from JET Charge spoke about the potential for ambitious, innovative solutions such as an integrated renewable energy, battery and EV Charging hub for trucks, the potential use of “vehicle to grid” in buildings, and autonomous electric transport for “last mile” movement in and around Fishermans Bend.
Rodney Thomson spoke about the composite materials expertise they bring to diverse projects across a range of sectors, with many cleantech applications such as the work they are doing with Carnegie Energy and the Blue Economy CRC.
It was great to see many of the participants of the Victorian Cleantech Cluster PowerOn Incubator Program we have supported exhibit their work and participate in the Pitching Competition - in particular, ELIoT Energy, Organica Engineering, Savion Aerospace and Reswitch. It was also great to see MicroFleet exhibiting the OneDock system which is being used in the e-micromobility trial with NTRO which is another project in Fishermans Bend supported by FB IDEAs.
Congrats to the team at the Victorian Cleantech Cluster - especially to Daniel Lancefield, Cluster Manager, and Nigel Murphy, VCC Chair, for bringing together such a fantastic event!
