Circular Innovation: the next generation of products designed for a circular economy
Adam Norris, founder of Annular Design – a design consultancy working towards circular product ecosystems – is about to launch a new innovation framework that assists businesses through the complexities of creating circular, sustainable products. We are excited to announce Adam will run a session in the FB IDEAs Hub on the 30th September before he pilots his workshop in October at Monash University.
Adam connected with FB IDEAs during After’s Melbourne Design Week events. Little did he know that he was tapping into a network of like-minded people – established businesses, startups and artists alike. Curiosity sparked, he visited the FB IDEA’s Circular Design Collective – home to a group of creatives working hands-on towards a circular economy.
Adam then joined as a member of the FB IDEAs Incubator and Innovation Hub – offering to contribute to the community with a rewarding session for our Hub members working in product design and development – and all others who are interested to join.

Hear more about Annular Design’s new innovation framework!
Australia is charting a course towards a 2035 circular economy and 65-70% emissions reduction. This is the start of a seismic change for many physical product businesses who don’t know what the future looks like or how to begin this journey. The shift from a "take-make-dispose" model is a multi-year effort, demanding a new approach to product design, innovation and business strategy.
Recognising this critical gap, Annular Design supported by a Creative Victoria grant program is introducing a new innovation framework guided by global experts in circular economy, business, innovation and design that assists businesses through the complexities of creating circular, sustainable products. This initiative is about empowering businesses to innovate, reduce environmental impact, and discover new avenues for sustainable growth in an economy that values productivity, regeneration and resource efficiency.
The challenge for businesses is significant, requiring a 5-10 year transition to rethink products, revenue streams and supply chains. Annular Design’s new "Circular Innovation for Products" framework aims to provide a tangible pathway.
An upcoming workshop in October will see a select group of businesses get hands-on experience to learn to identify circular product opportunities, develop sustainable product concepts, and refine ideas using leading design, innovation and sustainability tools. It promises to equip businesses with a bespoke roadmap, accelerating their pipeline and ensuring they are genuinely competitive.
Annular Design is seeking committed businesses eager to make a tangible impact and contribute to shaping Australia’s sustainable future.
